SUMMARY

 

Under supervision of the Controller, this position will be responsible for USA for UNHCR’s day-to-day accounting management.  The Accounting Manager will prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and prepare various monthly, quarterly and annual reports.  The Accounting Manager should be detailed and results oriented, collaborative, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask, manage priorities, and work independently. Judgment, integrity and trustworthiness are absolutely essential given the need to handle confidential and sensitive information.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Performs routine accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger, monthly closing, preparation of various accounting reports and assistance with accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliation functions.   Duties include but not limited to:

 

  • Prepare journal entries
  • Monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts
  • Monthly Investments reconciliations
  • Monthly Review of A/R and A/P aging report
  • Monthly Reconciliation of revenue to donor database
  • General ledger reconciliation and analysis of accounts
  • Take responsibility for accounts payable/receivable
  • Complete the month, quarter and year-end processes
  • Assisting with the annual audit and Form 990 preparation
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
  • Managing state registrations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least six (6) years non-profit accounting experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced level of Excel
  • Proficiency with accounting software, experience with Intacct and Bill.com is highly desired
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Recent CPA or CPA Candidate preferred but not required
  • Project management experience is desired

 WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The tasks will generally be performed in a typical office environment. May also involve travel to some locations within the company’s region of operations and select donor locations. **Please note, due to COVID-19, all USA for UNHCR staff are currently working remotely and all work travel suspended.**
